On April 7, Prairieland will implement its yard waste, pet waste and vegetative food scrap pick up program for the Village of Tower Lakes. Residents will be able to co-mingle the above organic waste materials for pick up as part of their disposal service. A variety of service options are available ranging from a per-bag sticker program to an unlimited annual bag program. This program will run through November.
Available Program Options*:
- $2.25 per bag sticker (available for purchase at Prairieland, 21N988 Pepper Road, Lake Barrington)
- $75.00 Seasonal Program (6 bags per week April through November)
- $95.00 Seasonal Program (unlimited bags per week April through November)
*Lawn waste bags to be provided by resident.
Captured organic matter is collected by Prairieland curbside in the paper yard waste bags and taken to a nearby state-licensed facility where it is processed into compost and various types of mulch.
Pet waste (kitty litter or dog waste) may be added to the yard waste bags but plastic bags are NOT allowed. Please use newspaper or paper bags, which will readily decompose.
The average American throws away 1.3 pounds of food scraps each day. By diverting these organic products away from the landfills we can turn them into useful recycled by-products as well as keeping them from fouling our waterways.
Tower Lakes is one of only 7 Lake County communities to have such a program. Please help us lead the way forward and protect our beautiful community and environment.
Please contact Prairieland at 847.381.9300 to sign up or for additional information.
